When Naomi Lovato first heard about College Possible Texas as a student at Pflugerville ISD, she wasn’t sure what to expect. Neither of her parents had attended college, and she had little guidance on the path to higher education. But one thing was certain—Naomi was determined to earn her degree.
She joined College Possible Texas’ after-school sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, where she connected with a near-peer coach who helped her navigate the complexities of the college application process, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities. That relationship became crucial to her support system, providing encouragement and practical advice when she needed it most.
Once she arrived at Texas State University, Naomi realized how much College Possible Texas meant to her. Without a strong support system at home, she often felt like she was figuring things out alone. But her College Possible Texas coach was there, checking in, offering guidance, and reassuring her to keep pushing forward.
Those check-ins were always a bright spot in my day,” she recalls. “My coach met me exactly where I was and reminded me that I wasn’t alone.”
After graduating from Texas State, Naomi sought new experiences, immersing herself in outdoor education opportunities in Colorado and San Diego. Her passion for service and education eventually brought her back to Texas, where she now works for a nonprofit. Two years into her role, she’s giving back to the community, helping others find their paths just as College Possible helped her.
Naomi’s story is a testament to the power of mentorship, persistence, and the impact of having a strong support system. She achieved her goal of earning a degree and found a way to use her experiences to support others on their life’s journeys.
At College Possible Texas, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, and Naomi’s journey is proof that with the proper support, determination, and guidance, anything is possible.
