Omari always had one goal: earning a college degree. In 2025, that goal became a reality when he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a double major in international studies and information science with a specialization in data science.
Now working as a data engineer, Omari is excited to keep building his skills and help organizations make smarter, data-driven decisions. More than a personal achievement, earning his degree has set a new standard for what’s possible within his family and his wider community. “I’m the first in my family to graduate from college,” he notes. “It’s shown my younger relatives that they can do it too.”
Omari reflects that his journey was shaped in large part by his College Possible coach, who encouraged him to expand his vision for what his future could look like. “I was planning to go to a two-year college,” he said. “But my coach pushed me to apply to UW-Madison and helped me through every step of the process. Her support helped me believe in myself and aim higher.”
Throughout college, Omari leaned on the support and resources that College Possible offered, from guidance on choosing a major to internship help and encouragement during tough semesters. “Whenever I had questions or needed advice, they were there,” he says. “Having that support system made a huge difference.”
Looking ahead, Omari sees his future in both the tech world and community service. “In five years, I hope to be growing as a data engineer and staying current with what’s happening in the industry,” he says. “But I also want to give back. I want to mentor students in my community and help them navigate college the way others helped me.”
Omari’s advice to new College Possible students? “Take advantage of every resource your coach gives you, they really are invested in your success,” he says. “And get internship experience early. It opens doors, builds your confidence, and helps you see what’s possible.”
