This year, College Possible Minnesota proudly celebrates 25 years of student success made possible through the support, belief, and generosity of our community. Since our founding, thousands of Minnesota students have realized their college dreams, earned their degrees, and returned to their neighborhoods as leaders, innovators, and changemakers. Among them is Mackemeh, a recent graduate whose journey highlights what becomes possible when students receive the guidance and encouragement they deserve.
When Mackemeh first joined College Possible as a high school junior, college felt distant. “I didn’t really have much guidance,” she remembers. Everything changed when she met her coach, Julia. “School was overwhelming. I had a lot going on with my family, and Julia was accessible every single time.” That relationship became an anchor, supportive, steady, and deeply personal. “[Julia] became family,” she says. With ACT prep, campus visits, and scholarship support, Mackemeh gained both the tools and the confidence she needed to take the next step. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Catherine University, graduating with minimal debt.
Today, Mackemeh serves her community as an urgent care nurse and health educator at a residential addiction recovery center. Her dreams continue to grow. She hopes to open a low-cost clinic to expand access to care and give back to the community that shaped her. “Without College Possible,” she shares, “I don’t think I would have graduated in the time I did, or with so little debt. [College Possible] made my dreams a reality.”
