At College Possible, impact doesn’t always happen in one big, shining moment. More often, it’s built quietly — in early-morning coaching sessions, draft essays covered in comments, financial aid forms double-checked late at night, and steady encouragement when students feel unsure about what comes next.
For Nick Dalton, it’s those small, everyday actions that are the heart of College Possible’s mission.
Drawn to Determination
When asked what first drew him to College Possible — and what keeps him here — Dalton points to the people.
“What keeps me passionate about our mission is the collective determination and drive across staff and coaches,” he says. “Our singular, small actions right now can have a large impact on individual students years from now, even after we leave College Possible.”
It’s a perspective that feels especially fitting as College Possible celebrates 25 years: a reminder that lasting change is built step by step, person by person.
Seeing the Full Journey
Most staff and coaches join students for just a chapter of their college experience. A semester. A year. Maybe two. Rarely does someone get to witness the entire arc, from interest to enrollment to graduation.
Dalton did.
“A student’s journey from hearing about College Possible to earning their degree takes several years, with so many steps in between,” he explains. “Most coaches and staff don’t see that full six-plus-year cycle.”
But for Kevin, Dalton was there almost every step of the way.
He remembers when Kevin was first curious but nervous about joining the program. While the coach sat next to Kevin throughout the process, Dalton was quietly but consistently supporting them both from the wings. He reviewed college essay drafts alongside their junior-year coach. He supported their senior-year coach in finding resources to make Kevin’s dream school financially possible, and helped navigate enrollment steps.
Then he watched Kevin’s story unfold as they started at Augsburg University.
After settling into academic life at Augsburg, Kevin joined College Possible’s leadership program. They spoke on panels for visiting students. After graduating with a degree in marketing, Kevin interviewed for a coaching position — hoping to give back in the same way they’d been supported.
“Even though they didn’t really know who I was,” Dalton says, “I am so proud to have witnessed their journey since 2019 and see the impact of all these small things we do in support of students.”
It’s the kind of impact that can’t always be measured in numbers, but it’s felt deeply.
Building What’s Next
As College Possible looks toward the future, Dalton is excited about how the organization continues to evolve to better serve students.
One recent change stands out: Coach Possible, a centralized platform designed to simplify the college planning process.
“Having Coach Possible as a one-stop shop for students to engage with College Possible, plan for college, reference curriculum resources, and more is a game-changer,” he says. “It removes the clutter of miscellaneous documents and spreadsheets from an already confusing process.”
It’s another example of how small improvements can make a big difference — giving students clearer paths forward and coaches more time to focus on what matters most: relationships.
25 Years of Possibility
Nick’s story is a reminder of what College Possible has always been about: steady support, belief in students, and the understanding that every action — no matter how small — can shape a life.
Over 25 years, thousands of those small actions have added up to something extraordinary.
And thanks to dedicated staff members like Nick, the next 25 years are already full of possibilities.
