Watching students achieve their college dreams is what drives Kurchi Basu every day. It’s why she has dedicated her career to expanding access to higher education—and why she’s proud to be part of College Possible’s 25-year journey.
Basu first learned about the organization as an undergraduate exploring potential career options at Carleton College, the same alma mater as College Possible founder Jim McCorkell. “I was immediately drawn to the mission,” she recalls. In 2023, after 12 years working in education, college access and career readiness, the stars finally aligned, and she became the director of College Match, bringing her experience from Texas and the Midwest to the national team.
One of Basu’s proudest moments came while designing and leading the nationwide Virtual Program Summit, which brought College Possible staff together for workshops, panels, and networking. The goal was to align on organizational priorities and recharge the commitment to “One College Possible.” “The energy, collaboration, and sense of unity reminded me why this work matters,” she says.
For Basu, making college possible is about giving every student the chance to choose the path that’s right for them. “Apprenticeships and vocational training have value, but they’re often positioned as the only path for students facing opportunity gaps, while higher-income peers are encouraged toward 4-year colleges. College Possible stands for giving students the support and resources to pursue college if they want to. That’s exactly why I’m committed—every student deserves the chance to dream big and have those dreams supported.” Her work ensures students build balanced college lists, apply for financial aid, and compare award packages during enrollment—helping them make the best-fit decision for their future.
As College Possible celebrates 25 years, Basu is energized by the organization’s momentum. “We’re not just adapting—we’re innovating. Every day, I’m proud to be part of a team that makes students’ dreams attainable.”
