Brian’s Story: Supporting Students From Access to Achievement

As part of the ongoing celebration of College Possible’s 25th anniversary—and CoPilot’s 10 years of serving partners—we spoke with Brian McNeill, senior customer success manager for CoPilot, about his journey from working directly with students to strengthening the tools and systems that support student success at scale. From witnessing students move full circle through our program to helping expand data-informed solutions across institutions, Brian’s work reflects how College Possible combines human connection, coaching and technology to expand access, improve persistence and ensure more students can earn the degrees they envision.

What “Making College Possible” Means to Me

The moments that are most meaningful to McNeill are often the quiet turning points — when a student begins to see a future that once felt uncertain, or when doubt gives way to confidence. Those shifts may seem small, but they represent something powerful: possibility becoming reality.

To McNeill, making college possible means helping students see their opportunities within reach and walking alongside them as they take each step forward.

“It’s about listening closely, offering steady guidance and reminding students that their aspirations are both valid and attainable. At its heart, this work empowers students to make informed, confident decisions about their futures.”

A Moment That Showed the Impact of Our Work

“One of the most powerful experiences I’ve had was watching several students move through the lifecycle of our program, from navigating access challenges in high school to persisting through the demands of college and ultimately earning degrees in fields they were passionate about,” McNeill says.

The true full-circle moment comes when some of those same students return to College Possible as coaches.

“Seeing them extend the encouragement and belief they once received affirms something profound: this work doesn’t just change individual lives, it creates a ripple effect,” says McNeill.

Looking to the Future

McNeill is energized by what lies ahead — expanding reach, deepening partnerships and continuing to evolve so more students can access and complete college.

McNeill explains, “I was drawn to College Possible by the opportunity to work directly with students as they pursued their own visions of success. Throughout my eight years, everything we’ve done reinforces something I’ve long believed: when human connection and smart systems work together, student success becomes sustainable and scalable.”

Advice to Students

McNeill offers one piece of advice for students: stay connected.

“Consistent communication with your coach or advisor can make all the difference. You don’t have to navigate this journey alone, and you were never meant to,” he says.
