FAFSA Completion Rates Rise Statewide, With Omaha Seniors Ahead of the Curve

Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is one of the most important steps a student can take on the path to higher education. Research from the National College Attainment Network (NCAN) shows that seniors who complete the FAFSA are 84% more likely to enroll in college. For students from the lowest socioeconomic backgrounds, completing the FAFSA is linked to a 127% increase in immediate college enrollment.

At College Possible, we know that the FAFSA completion is more than just paperwork—it’s an essential indicator of college persistence. That’s why our advising specialists dedicate time and resources to guiding students through the process every year.

Supporting Students Every Step of the Way

College Possible provides personalized, intensive coaching to ensure students have the knowledge and tools to complete the FAFSA with confidence. Our advising specialists assist with everything from:

  • Creating an FSA ID
  • Determining who qualifies as a contributor
  • Understanding financial aid offers
  • Applying for scholarships that complement federal and state aid

Events like our Dollars for Scholars Day give students and families the chance to sit down with trained advisors for hands-on support. Last spring, students received real-time help completing the FAFSA and learning about scholarship opportunities, ensuring they stayed on track to secure funding for college.

That individualized approach makes a measurable difference: 94.3% of College Possible Omaha seniors in the class of 2025 completed the FAFSA, far outpacing state and national averages.

A Statewide Milestone

As of August 29, 2025, the NCAN FAFSA Tracker reports that 59.4% of Nebraska’s class of 2025 seniors had completed the FAFSA, representing a 22.1% year-over-year increase from the class of 2024.

This momentum was fueled in part by the state’s new universal FAFSA initiative, requiring graduating seniors to either complete the FAFSA or formally opt out. Combined with a smoother filing process following last year’s nationwide delays, this change gave more students access to federal and state aid opportunities.

College Possible’s Impact

While policy changes help create statewide progress, personalized support drives individual success. For many, the FAFSA can feel overwhelming. College Possible advising specialists provide the encouragement, expertise, and the accountability students need to complete the form and understand the resources available to them.

By pairing Nebraska’s statewide efforts with College Possible’s direct student support, we’re helping to ensure that more students not only start college—but persist and graduate.

Looking Ahead

The FAFSA for the 2026-2027 academic year opened on September 25, 2025 and College Possible Omaha is already hard at work guiding students through the process. Each completed FAFSA represents more than a form—it represents opportunity, access, and a student one step closer to achieving their college dreams.

At College Possible Omaha, we’re proud to play a role in Nebraska’s FAFSA success and remain committed to helping students fund their future.
