CHICAGO — College Possible Chicago has selected Dr. John Boumgarden as its new executive director, succeeding Christine Poorman, the organization’s founding executive director.

Boumgarden brings more than 15 years of experience in education leadership, research and nonprofit strategy, with a career focused on improving postsecondary outcomes for students. He most recently served as senior director and postsecondary leadership coach at OneGoal, where he partnered with school districts to strengthen postsecondary systems using data, improvement science and collaborative leadership.

“John brings a rare combination of strategic vision, research expertise and deep respect for the work happening in schools and communities,” said Dr. Siva Kumari, CEO of College Possible. “He understands how systems change happens and is deeply aligned with our mission to help students access and complete college.”

Boumgarden has worked with large urban districts across the country, leading strategic planning efforts, research studies and organizational improvement initiatives. His experience includes supporting districts through complex change, developing tools to assess postsecondary readiness and coaching senior leaders to drive student-centered outcomes.

“College Possible Chicago is built on strong relationships, deep community trust and a belief in students’ potential,” Boumgarden said. “I am honored to build on the foundation Christine created and to work alongside this talented team to continue expanding opportunities for students.”

Poorman’s leadership was instrumental in launching and growing College Possible Chicago, establishing it as a trusted partner to schools, districts and communities across the region. During her tenure, the organization expanded its reach and helped more than 3,000 students pursue and succeed in postsecondary education.

“Christine’s leadership shaped College Possible Chicago into the strong, mission-driven organization it is today,” said Kumari. “We are deeply grateful for her vision and dedication.”

Boumgarden holds a doctorate in K-12 education leadership and policy from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, a master’s degree in education from Hunter College, and a bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology from Calvin College.
