Meet Abbey Witham, College coach transitions to staff

Abbey Witham graduated from the College of Saint Benedict in 2021 with a B.A. in history and English. During her undergraduate studies, she had the opportunity to work as a peer mentor for two years, mentoring first-year students and working to break down the invisible barriers of higher education. After graduation, Abbey joined College Possible Minnesota where she served as a college success coach. In 2022, she was offered a promotion to a full-time position as the Grants Specialist on the External Relations Team, which she quickly accepted. Abbey’s current responsibilities include writing grant proposals and reports, managing the grants calendar and processes, and researching institutional prospects.

“I am drawn to College Possible by its mission of educational equity and breaking down barriers to higher education,” said Abbey. “Throughout college, I had various mentors and adults in my life who helped teach me about available resources, pushed me to explore opportunities, and cheered me on. I would not have been nearly as confident in myself or had as much success in college without them. I also worked as a peer mentor throughout college and helped first-year students with the college transition and its “hidden curriculum.” After graduating, I wanted to continue dismantling those barriers and offer similar support to college students, empowering them to confidently pursue their dreams.”

When not expertly crafting grant proposals, Abbey can be found enjoying honey lavender ice cream from Jupiter Moon and watching La La Land or Star Wars. When asked what she is most excited about in the coming year, Abbey replied that she is thrilled to return to in-person events and hopes to see you at one of them!

We are thrilled to have Abbey on the College Possible Minnesota team.
