A new partnership in education equity: United Way and College Possible Milwaukee

We are pleased to have teamed up with the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County as agency partners for the 2023-24 campaign year to tackle college access and success for scholars from low-income backgrounds.

Early in 2023, we were honored to be selected as a recipient of their Racial Equity Fund. The Racial Equity Fund supports Black- and Brown-led organizations and ideas. The goal of the fund is to build the capacity of these organizations in order to identify and address defined Black- and Brown-focused priorities. Their funding has allowed us to increase the living stipend of AmeriCorps members serving with College Possible Milwaukee, expand access to career development opportunities for scholars, as well as support general operating expenses.

Recognizing that systemic racism has severely hindered many scholars in Milwaukee and that adequately serving these scholars requires action at the intersection of social justice, equity and education, College Possible Milwaukee is committed to advancing educational equity. When scholars from low-income and underrepresented communities earn college degrees, their presence in the workforce, and in the ranks of leadership in our country, fundamentally advances social justice and equity.

“Being recognized as a partner agency with the United Way is a great honor as we enter our 15th program year,” stated Executive Director, Marco Morrison. “We know that our graduates are employed, have high rates of civic and philanthropic engagement, and are not buried in undergraduate debt. Our partnership with the United Way is an incredible validation of this work and our commitment to ending the cycle of generational poverty.”
