A Decade of Dedication: Austin’s Journey from Donor to Board Chair

At College Possible Washington, our work is powered by people who believe deeply in the potential of every student. We’re proud to highlight our Board Chair, Austin Dahl, who has supported our mission for nearly a decade.

Austin’s connection to the organization dates back to our early days as College Access Now (CAN). A close friend invited him to a fundraiser, certain he would connect with the mission. That introduction sparked a lasting relationship. Austin first became a donor and, in January 2018, officially joined the board.

Austin brings valuable knowledge and perspective to our work. His professional background in software development has supported our team with data analysis and presentations, and his photography skills are always appreciated at events. Whether behind the scenes or front and center, Austin is always ready to step in wherever he’s needed.

When asked what motivated him to join the board, Austin recalls one event in particular. There, two students, a brother and sister, shared how the support they received from College Possible (then CAN) changed the trajectory of their lives.

As first-generation college students, they were the first in their family to have access to higher education. They also shared that their mother, inspired by their journey, later decided to return to community college and continue her education herself.

In that moment, it all clicked. Austin realized the work was not just about supporting individual students, but entire families and communities. One college degree can create ripple effects that extend far beyond a single graduate.

As Austin put it, “[College Possible] really has the opportunity to change families, and not just families. When students succeed, they’re not going to stop talking about it. That creates the possibility to change entire communities, and that’s what really got me going—realizing we could change a whole lot with fairly simple support.”

That belief continues to guide Austin’s leadership today. We’re grateful for his steady support, thoughtful perspective, and ongoing commitment to students across Washington.

Thank you, Austin, for all you do.
