Mayra Alaniz is an alumna of the College Possible program, graduating from South Division High School in 2013. She was awarded the Bill & Melinda Gates Millennium Scholarship and she was named Hispanic Youth of the Year by the United Migrant Opportunity Services (UMOS).
She attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where she majored in Government and minored in Sociology. Mayra maintained close ties to Milwaukee during her college summers, interning in various capacities at the City of Milwaukee and volunteering with education-related nonprofits.
Upon college graduation Mayra returned to Milwaukee and entered the communications field. Currently, she is a communications coordinator for the Office of the Mayor where she executes marketing and public relations efforts and manages social media outlets. Her responsibilities include planning the Mayor’s “Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days” initiative and supporting the communications efforts of the “Earn & Learn” program.
Mayra lives with her family on the south side of Milwaukee. She enjoys sharing her college application experience and knowledge about college resources with youth.
