UP Ties (Union Pacific Ties) celebrated a significant milestone on June 16 with the successful organization of the 15th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Eagle Hills Golf Course. As a testament to their ongoing commitment, College Possible Omaha was invited to join the festivities for the third consecutive year as the charity partner. UP Ties, a vibrant employee resource group at Union Pacific Railroad, strives to connect, develop, and empower young professionals through collaborative, social, and community-focused opportunities.

Embracing the lively atmosphere, College Possible Omaha took charge of Hole 10, offering an exciting challenge to the tournament participants. The task at hand was to skillfully hit a wiffle ball into or near a hoop, with the golfer from each foursome achieving the closest shot earning a well-deserved prize.

In a creative departure from previous years, College Possible Omaha replaces their marshmallow-hitting challenge with the wiffle ball endeavor, aiming to avoid any potential messes. Surprisingly, the absence of the marshmallow challenge was met with nostalgic sentiments, as nearly every group expressed their fondness for the tradition. Despite this change, the players thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, even though not a single person managed to land the wiffle ball in the hoop. Their efforts came close, but the elusive wiffle ball managed to evade them.

Uniting for a cause: UP Ties charity golf tournament support College Possible Omaha

Beyond the thrill of the tournament, the UP Ties Annual Charity Golf Tournament held a deeper purpose as a fundraising event for College Possible Omaha. This significant occasion was made possible through the generous sponsorship of several companies, whose contributions resulted in a remarkable amount of over $19,000 being raised. These funds will play a vital role in supporting college access and success programming throughout the upcoming 2023-2024 fiscal year.

The collaboration between UP Ties and College Possible Omaha exemplifies the power of uniting for a common cause. With UP Ties’ dedication to empowering young professionals and College Possible Omaha’s commitment to facilitating educational opportunities, this event not only showcased the spirit of community but also paved the way for a brighter future by fostering college access and success for deserving students.

“The UP Ties Charity Golf Tournament is one of the highlights of our year. It is an exceptionally well-run event where everyone comes together to have a great time while supporting a community nonprofit, which for this year is College Possible Omaha. We had a lot of fun hosting Hole 10 with our wiffle ball challenge. All of the golfers were such great sports, which just added to the fun. A big shout out to the planning committee – they did an amazing job,” said Melissa Valek, senior development director at College Possible Omaha.
