Students appreciate their coaches

At College Possible Minnesota, we strive to celebrate the hard work and dedication of our AmeriCorps coaches year-round. March 11-15, 2024, otherwise known as AmeriCorps Appreciation Week, we call special attention to the impact coaches make on the students they serve and the College Possible organization as a whole.

We asked College Possible students to tell us a story about why their coach mattered in their life and a few words to describe their coach. Based on the number of responses we received, students love their coaches as much as we do. Here’s what they had to say about what their coaches meant to them during AmeriCorps Appreciation Week:

“Renee is someone that always makes sure everyone is included. She always checks in on us to make sure we are all on track with school. Even though I am doing online school, she always takes the time to make sure I am caught up with everything, which is something that I really appreciate. During the application season, I remember feeling very stressed out with school, work, and everything. She really helped me with every part of the application process. And made it so much easier. She is one of the biggest reasons behind many of my acceptances from colleges. I am so grateful to have her as a coach. And really appreciate all her support throughout the year.” – Sajdah

“I didn’t know where to start, so having someone who knows resources and who’s gone through the process to support me was an immense help. Andy’s advice was very really helpful, not only in the process of transitioning from high school to college, but also just life in general. The advice, the resources, and just someone willing to help you really makes an impact in your life.” – Constantine

“I sometimes get distracted with life and working at my internship. So, seeing that check-in email from my coach about something like applying for a scholarship really helps. I am grateful to have Axel, a coach that does just that.” – Abdishakur

“My coach played a huge role in my college application process. He went above and beyond; from helping with my common app essay and giving me a recommendation, to tutoring me, and helping me keep track of my classes. He always makes sure that I have all my needs met and is genuinely interested in my accomplishments and any future accomplishments I will achieve. He made the process much less overwhelming and it’s refreshing to have someone genuinely excited and interested in me and my achievements”. – Mona
