On The Table Event Discusses Future of National Service

The future of national service was a hot topic during the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s On the Table event October 10. The participation from community members was inspiring, as well as the collaboration between College Possible, Public Allies, City Year and event organizer, Bridge the City. Participants had robust small-group discussions on challenges and opportunities facing Milwaukee, whether making national service mandatory would help gain traction on some significant issues facing the country, and what today’s youth are looking forward to on their educational and career journeys.

National service, through programs like AmeriCorps, has enabled millions of people to serve their communities in areas such as education, the environment and health. These programs are what make non-profit organizations like College Possible financially feasible and programmatically effective, as we work to help students from low-income backgrounds earn college degrees. By continuing these discussions about the impact of national service with friends and family, we can help create more awareness about the importance of national service in our community.

Know someone interested in a term of service? We are currently looking for transition coaches to start in January, as well as coaches for the 2020-21 school year! More information at CollegePossible.org/Serve
