The COVID-19 pandemic has created many challenges. Having consistent funding means a great deal to our organization, which is why we are pleased to announce that College Possible Oregon has been awarded the Community Health Grant from Legacy Health.
The grant provides $50,000 of support to our Flagship high school program for three-years. This funding from Legacy Health will enable us to:
- Foster early college planning and preparation.
- Address common academic, social and financial barriers to college by providing programming to high school participants.
- Increase college admission and enrollment rates.
- Increase college persistence and graduation rates of students we serve.

College Possible aligns with our efforts to address the social determinants of health and health equity in our community and responds to the need to deepen the support for educational success,” said Kamesha Robinson, director of community benefit.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, addressing social determinants of health is a primary approach to achieving health equity where everyone has the opportunity to attain their full health potential. Health is generally categorized into five broad categories: genetics, behavior, environmental and physical influences, medical care and social factors.
There are several factors related to health outcomes, including:
- How much education a person obtains and the quality of that education
- How a person develops during the first few years of life
- Social support
- Language and literacy
