At College Possible Omaha, we are dedicated to helping students find sustainable ways to fund their education and reduce the financial barriers that often prevent students from pursuing a college degree. Through our “Fund Your Future” initiative, we aim to raise awareness and encourage students to apply for scholarships—an often overlooked source of free money that can significantly ease the cost of college.
Every year, millions of dollars in scholarships go unclaimed simply because students aren’t aware of the opportunities available or don’t apply. Our goal is to change that. This year, we’re encouraging students in our program to apply for at least two scholarships per month. To support them, the college access team has curated a list of scholarships to match students’ interests, and coaches provide personalized guidance to navigate the application process.
A record of success
The College Possible Omaha class of 2024 is a shining example of what’s possible when students receive the right support. Seventy-five high school seniors were awarded an impressive $3.9 million in scholarships, demonstrating the hard work of students and how the right mentorship can open doors to opportunity. These scholarships are more than financial aid—they offer students the chance to pursue higher education without the burden of heavy debt.
Simplifying the process and busting scholarship myths
First-generation college students, a primary focus of our work, often face unique challenges in understanding how to access scholarships and financial aid. Many lack the resources or experience to navigate the process. Theses students are also more likely to enroll in less selective schools due to concerns around affordability. Through “Fund Your Future,” we’re making scholarships more accessible and less intimidating for students who are the first in their families to attend college.
To further assist, our “Myth-Buster Monday” social media series addresses common misconceptions about scholarships. Many believe scholarships are reserved for those with perfect grades or athletic ability, but there are opportunities available for a wide range of skills, backgrounds, and experiences. By dispelling these myths, we’re helping students recognize that they, too, can qualify for scholarships.
Staying focused on student success
Looking ahead, we remain committed to making scholarships a key part of students’ college funding strategies. Whether it’s through one-on-one coaching, workshops, or scholarship databases, College Possible is here to support students every step of the way.
“Fund Your Future” is more than just a scholarship campaign—it’s about helping students secure brighter futures by reducing the financial obstacles to higher education, allowing them to focus on earning their degrees and pursuing their passions.
