On August 23, College Possible Chicago welcomed our newest team of AmeriCorps coaches. Over the past three weeks, coaches participated in intensive trainings introducing them to the College Possible coaching model and curriculum and also familiarizing them with the needs of our students. For coaches, this initial round of training is just the first step. Throughout their term of service, coaches will receive ongoing support from full-time staff as they guide students through the complex journey to a college degree.
Each year, we are inspired by the passion and drive our AmeriCorps members bring to their service with College Possible. We asked a few of our new coaches to share what brought them to this role.
I chose to be a College Possible coach because I wanted…
“…to be the person that I needed when I was preparing for college” – Marchella, college coach
“…to impact and guide future leaders” – Kevin, high school coach
“…to bring stability and autonomy to a process that can take it away from a lot of students” – Sean, high school coach
“… to provide support to students, just like me, trying to navigate a world where there are not many opportunities for guidance.” – Tyree, college coach
“…to help students realize their full potential and guide them in believing they belong in higher education.” – Emily, high school coach
We at College Possible Chicago are so grateful to our AmeriCorps members who have chosen to dedicate a year of service to support Chicago students on their journeys to and through college. Please join us in welcoming them to the Chicago team!
