With the 2021-2022 school year coming to an end, College Possible Washington celebrated the graduating high school class of 2022. Every year our college access team hosts LAUNCH, a virtual event to celebrate our graduating seniors for all their hard work and dedication as they step into the next stage of their academic careers.
The event included guest speakers Darrell Powell, board member since 2015, and Caroline Ward, our Nathan Hale High School Senior Coach. This year we had more than 100 attendees, almost twice as many as last year. Several students received awards for engagement, college applications and scholarships. More than 20 of our students received laptops during the giveaway portion of the event.
We wanted to give a special shoutout to our sponsor, the Sheng Yen Lu Foundation; we are thankful for your support! Thank you to Costco, which generously donated laptops to College Possible. And a big thank you to our LAUNCH working group Natalie Popowics, Rosemary Adkisson and, Casey Yates for planning and putting together such a successful event!
In addition to LAUNCH, the college access team hosted SOAR, a celebration of our most engaged College Possible college students! As we continue to build engagement with our college students, we have modified the celebration focus to increase persistence and continue building relationships. This year, we decided to invite 35 of our most engaged students to ensure higher attendance. All of the students who attended received laptops, thank-you cards, and gift cards from coaches and College Possible. We catered food from Chipotle and Nothing Bundt Cakes, and the event took place at the Othello-UW Commons.
Thank you to our college access team Emma Scheetz, Maalini Suresh, Max Ramawy, Mackenzie Otterson, Sierra Thompkins, Sean Hampton and, Sierra Thompkins for putting together an amazing celebration!
