Last year, College Possible Milwaukee and Kohler Co. partnered to create the Kohler Scholars Program. This one-of-a-kind program aims to provide high school students who are the first in their family to attend college with annual $5,000 scholarships, mentorship from Kohler leaders, career exploration and internship opportunities.
This summer will mark the completion of the first year of the Kohler Scholars Program with the first cohort of scholars: Cecilia Mercado Martin, Toluwanimi Olatunji, and Susan Thao. Throughout the school year, they have each been supported by a Kohler mentor, with Martin and Thao beginning internships at Kohler this summer.
“I’m honored to serve as a mentor to Cecilia. Over the last several months, we’ve gotten to know one another and I’m beyond impressed by her level of dedication and personal character and integrity. She’s ambitious and passionate about her academic journey and she shows up big time, carrying 18 credits this last semester,” shares Christine Perkins, director of employer brand and HR communications. “I have a feeling I’ll be working for her one day. I speak for all of us mentors at Kohler when I say how humbled we are to be working alongside and learning from these brilliant young leaders.”
This year, the Kohler Scholars Program will support an additional five high school seniors. In total, eight scholars will be supported by the Kohler Scholars Program during the 2023-24 academic year.
We are proud to announce the 2023 Kohler Scholars Program recipients!
Kyla Chester-Hopkins will be graduating from Pathways High School this spring and plans to study art and design. Chester-Hopkins has been accepted to 14 different colleges and universities including Hamline University, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and will be making her final enrollment decision soon.
July Tun will be graduating from Milwaukee High School of the Arts this spring and plans to enroll at either Marquette University or University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the fall to pursue studies in the STEM field.
Zing Hnem will be graduating from South Division High School and plans to enroll at either Marquette University or University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the fall to study accounting.
Sang Cung will be graduating from Hamilton High School and plans to enroll at Marquette University in the fall to study computer science and business.
Da’Sharia Williams will be graduating from Milwaukee Academy of Science and plans to study business. Williams has been accepted to 17 different colleges and universities. Ultimately, she will be attending the University of Notre Dame this fall.
