When Beth Kalal started her college journey, she would never have known it would look the way it did. The rising Champions for College Possible vice-chair had to take a break from school partway through her college career before finishing her bachelor’s degree at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and her MBA at Bellevue University. Beth’s nonlinear path has motivated her to advocate for students as they work toward earning their college degree.
Beth is a benefits coordinator for Triage, a medical staffing agency in Omaha, Nebraska. She joined Champions for College Possible in 2021 and quickly got involved in the auxiliary board by volunteering for various events. She led a financial basics panel and participated in a graduate school panel for AmeriCorps members. Additionally, she and other Champions have facilitated career panels for our nine partner high schools throughout April.
I’ve enjoyed getting to be a part of our panels because I feel like, through my nonlinear college path, I have a lot of insight to share. I truly believe that if you keep yourself open to pivoting your path, you are more likely to be successful,” she says.
Throughout Beth’s college journey, she was very involved on her campus and believes her participation helped prepare her for her current career. When she heard about College Possible, she wanted to get involved because she wants to help students find their passions the way she did.
More people deserve to receive their education if they want it. I am proud to help an organization that assists students in getting over barriers to receive their college degree,” she says.
As College Possible celebrates its 10th anniversary in May, Beth and her fellow Champions are inviting their networks to celebrate with us. She says she’s excited for her network and the community to truly see College Possible’s impact on the Omaha community.
