After the COVID-19 pandemic hit and school went online, Teresa, a senior at Omaha North High Magnet School, came to the realization that she loves school. She initially thought what drew her was being with the people around her and the environment, but she found out that she truly loves to learn. As a soccer player and a member of the National Honor Society and DECA, which encourages future leaders, Teresa is committed to being an active participant in her education.
The summer before her senior year, Teresa focused on her interests to help her chart the path she wanted to take in college. Noting her love of math and science and an avid interest in buildings and their construction, Teresa set her sights on majoring in architectural engineering. Thus far, she has applied to the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL).
After looking at the classes required and the job description, I knew it would be the perfect major for me,” she said.
With her brother’s encouragement, Teresa joined College Possible during her junior year of high school to help her direct her higher education aspirations. Teresa found the ACT prep facilitated by College Possible to be invaluable. Her coaches guided Teresa and other students in her cohort through multiple intensive sessions, helping them to develop test-taking strategies and deepen their content knowledge.
As a senior, Teresa has shifted her focus to applying for scholarships and just recently received the Regents Scholarship from UNL. This scholarship is awarded to students who either rank in the top 25% of their class or have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
I’m thankful for my College Possible coaches and for their assistance with providing me the resources needed to decide which college to go to, as well as the resources to apply,” she says.
