Washington is excited to give a warm welcome to a new cohort of AmeriCorps coaches for the 2021-2022 school year!
These near-peer coaches will support students on their path to college graduation. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we spent the entire last year online. This year, we hope to transition to a hybrid of in-person and online learning. No matter what, we are excited to welcome our new coaches to the Washington team.
Last year, we asked coaches what advice they may have for future coaches:
“Future coaches should know that even though you can’t change the entire educational system by yourself, you have the ability to make a real impact on the lives of students you work with.” – Sierra Thompkins
“I would tell future coaches that they will learn and grow a lot professionally in an AmeriCorps coach position.” – Anna Brigden
“Your service and dedication really makes a difference in the lives of the people you work with.” – Theresa Le
“These relationships we build with students take patience and empathy but are so so worth it.” – Anna Given
“College Possible Washington is a collection of awesome people, from coaches, CPTs, VISTAs, all the way to the leadership team, you can tell everyone cares about the mission of College Possible and dedication to the communities we serve.” – CM Manchester
We welcome 30 AmeriCorps members to the team this year and they will spent the next ten months working to support high school and college students on their path to earning their college degrees. The last three weeks in August will be spent together as an entire team doing virtual orientation and training called Welcome Weeks. After that, coaches begin contacting students and the school year begins!
These AmeriCorps coaches are vital to the success of the College Possible program. We’re so grateful to these 30 people who choose to do a year of service with us and choose to support students and fight for educational equity.
