A Call to Action: College Possible Omaha Participates in Annual MLK Day of Service

College Possible Omaha celebrated the life and legacy of The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021.

Leadership Team and AmeriCorps members kicked off the day with an activity and small group discussions before attending the virtual 26th Annual Youth Rally and March Call to Action. The program is hosted by MLK Youth Rally in Lincoln, Neb. and featured a reading of a letter by Rep. John Lewis, the history of a civil rights anthem “Precious Love,” and a performance of “We Dream” by Belmont TRACKS Empowerment Scholars.

College Possible Omaha wrote personal letters of appreciation and recognition to local healthcare workers and residences in assisted living facilities.

Each member spent the afternoon performing or planning upcoming hyper local acts of service within their community.

“I look forward to the MLK Day of service each year. It’s the only federal holiday that’s been designated as a national day of service, and it’s really powerful to see folks across the country honor the legacy of Dr. King by actively serving others,” said Program Director Katie Cunningham.

“College Possible serves others every day and MLK day provides us the opportunity to serve our community in different ways and reflect on the transformational power of service.”

In the spirit of service, College Possible Omaha encourages others to contribute to the community by performing meaningful acts of service and goodwill in the coming weeks.
