A new study released by Voices for National Service has shown the benefits that AmeriCorps brings to society, program members and the federal government. The 2020 study conducted by ICF found a remarkable return on investment of $17.30 for every $1 in federal taxes.
“National service has been an essential source of people power and ingenuity for our country for decades,” said AnnMaura Connolly, President of Voices for National Service. “We have always known that AmeriCorps and Senior Corps punch above their weight when it comes to the benefits they provide to society, those who serve, and the government. Now we know that the return on investment is an incredible 17:1.”
AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs, made up of three primary programs that each take a different approach to improving lives and fostering civic engagement. Similar to military service or the Peace Corps, it is another way to serve our community and country. Members commit their time to address critical community needs such as increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, fighting poverty, sustaining national parks, preparing for disasters and more. AmeriCorps and VISTA members serve to make our people safer, stronger and healthier, and to strengthen our communities.
At College Possible, we believe that leveraging the national service model to deliver our programming has uniquely powerful and far-reaching impacts and better outcomes for students, our organization, the members who serve, and the health of our nation overall.
