College Possible students at Lake View High School had a valuable opportunity to engage with professionals from Ernst & Young (EY) during a recent volunteer event. The day began with volunteers sharing their personal college journeys, helping students gain insights into industries they may not be familiar with. “It was really helpful to hear the professional’s story,” said junior Samara. “I like learning about different career paths I can take.”
Students then worked with volunteers to enhance their college applications and resumes. Juniors focused on identifying what activities and experiences to include and brainstormed steps they could take to improve their application, like taking on a leadership role in a school club. Volunteers helped seniors by offering tips for incorporating action verbs and measurable outcomes to craft strong resumes for future job opportunities. “I learned how to talk about my experiences in a clear and professional way,” shared senior Shantal.
“This was a great opportunity for Lake View students to engage with corporate professionals, who helped them connect their learning with future college and career aspirations,” explained Carmen Baker, a counselor at the school. “It also gave EY a chance to positively impact our school community and see how awesome and talented the students here are.”
