Schlitz Park hosts Run by the River in support of college equity

In September, the Schlitz Park Run by the River 5K and 2-mile walk brought together more than 500 participants celebrating fitness and outdoor fun, while supporting College Possible Wisconsin’s vital mission: empowering students from underinvested communities to achieve their goal of earning a college degree.

The race wound along the scenic Milwaukee Riverwalk and through the historic Brewer’s Hill neighborhood. A community-favorite downtown Milwaukee event, the annual run and walk are held in honor of the late Gary Grunau, the former owner of the Schlitz Park campus, whose philanthropic efforts have left a lasting legacy on the Milwaukee community.

This year’s event included individuals, teams, and corporate partners, all united in their commitment to raising funds for College Possible Wisconsin. Every runner and walker who closed the gap between the start and the finish line also helped in the efforts to close the college degree divide by not only fundraising for College Possible programming, but by also raising awareness about the importance of making college accessible for all.

Thanks to the generosity of participants and sponsors, this year’s Schlitz Park Run by the River raised thousands of dollars in support of equitable education. College Possible Wisconsin is grateful for the continued support and looks forward to empowering even more students across the state of Wisconsin in persisting to and through a college degree.
