James is the owner and founder of the Hyland Lake Group in Edina, a personal financial planning and wealth management services firm. He is a Certified Financial Planner® Practitioner and has served clients for over 20 years. He is honored and excited to serve and support College Possible Minnesota’s Advisory Board in its mission to grow and to improve the lives of students.
Prior to joining College Possible, he has served as a commissioner on the CFP Board of Standard’s 12-Member Disciplinary & Ethics Commission, a classroom presenter with Best Prep Minnesota, a youth club soccer coach, and a parent volunteer and Merit Badge Counselor with the Boy Scouts of America.
James received a B.L.A of Landscape Architecture from Texas Tech University and holds the Chartered Financial Consultant® and Chartered Special Needs Consultant® designations from the American College of Financial Services.
James and his wife Laura live in Chaska with their blended family of three children and their two rescue pups. Their oldest son is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, and their daughter currently attends the University of Minnesota. Their youngest son attends the University of Kansas.
