Welcome Weeks 2024-25: Embarking on the school year with the new cohort of AmeriCorps coaches

Ten Coaches Gathered Around A Table, Smiling And Chatting While Looking At A Project Screen That Reads “Icebreaker.”

The latter half of August ushered in more than just the new school year–it also marked the launch of College Possible Wisconsin’s 2024-25 Welcome Weeks, where we welcomed 27 new and returning AmeriCorps coaches. A rigorous and comprehensive three-week training prepped these dedicated professionals for an exciting service year of empowering students to persist to and through college.

Equipping the AmeriCorps coaches with the essential skills to support students, Welcome Weeks included a deep dive into effective coaching techniques, best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a thorough understanding of the student curriculum. And, the training program is rounded out by an emphasis on team building.

A range of activities designed to foster team cohesion and create a supportive environment were infused into the three week program. Kicking off with a team breakfast, followed by a welcome social featuring fun treats and games, AmeriCorps coaches built bonds and a cohort identity that will last them throughout their term. Community-building activities, including quick game breaks and icebreakers led by returning coaches and program staff enhanced team spirit and camaraderie.

With Welcome Weeks in the rear view mirror, College Possible Wisconsin is thrilled about the 2024-25 school year. The AmeriCorps coaches’ commitment and preparation will make a significant impact on the students they support this year, guiding them on their journey towards a college degree.
