Emma grew up in a bi-coastal, biracial family, spending time in rural Maine and the Bay Area of California. After completing her B.A. in English and Ethnic Studies, Emma served as an AmeriCorps VISTA with a college-access nonprofit called Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano. Emma also taught First-Year Writing at the University of Connecticut while taking the opportunity to study literature some more. Her favorite work involves narratives of immigration and transition, and she is passionate about supporting students as they define their own personal histories and futures.
