Milwaukee Board Chair Wins Governor’s Award for Service

College Possible Milwaukee Board Chair, Susan Mikulay, was selected to receive a 2015 Governor’s Award for Service at a Madison ceremony on June 4, 2015. Mikulay received the Marty Stein Friend of National Service Exemplary Supporter Award presented by Serve Wisconsin. This award is given to an exemplary supporter – individual or organization – of a national service program in Wisconsin. The late Mr. Stein was the first President of the Serve Wisconsin Board.

Mikulay was nominated by College Possible Milwaukee for the outstanding work she has done to support the organization. Her belief in both the abilities of Milwaukee students and the power of national service led her to College Possible and to serving as Board Chair. Mikulay has spent the past three years helping to ensure that College Possible Milwaukee can support and expand program services to more low-income students as they get into and earn college degrees. Her participation in site visits and donor meetings, writing letters of support and making personal phone calls has been integral in opening the door to new relationships within the Milwaukee community. Her leadership has helped the organization secure close to two million dollars in donations from local corporations, foundations and individuals.

“Susan has been an outstanding leader for College Possible,” said Edie Turnbull, Executive Director. “We’re lucky to have her on our team and so glad she’s received this recognition from the Governor for her service.”

As a personal friend of Marty Stein, the award holds special meaning for Mikulay and she is honored to receive it.
