College Possible Omaha had 121 reasons to be thankful this spring.
The organization raised $37,800 from 121 individual donors on May 22 during the annual Omaha Gives! community philanthropy day.
“We are extremely grateful for the support of our family, friends and the Omaha community as we continue to provide area students with the opportunity to earn a 4-year college degree,” College Possible Executive Director Arvin Frazier said. “It’s an inspiration to see the community rise up in support of its neighbors.”
All staff members donated through Omaha Gives! and the College Possible Board of Directors provided a generous gift match of $15,819.
Omaha Community Foundation organizes Omaha Gives! to grow philanthropy around the metro in Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie counties.
The annual day of giving, a 24-hour online event each May, celebrates nonprofits big and small and asks people to support the community with a minimum donation of $10 to local organizations of their choice.
This year, 973 nonprofits were supported from the day of giving event. Of the 267 education-focused organizations earning money this year, College Possible came in the 15th for total dollars raised during Omaha Gives!.
The funds will go to programs that currently serve more than 2,200 talented and capable, Omaha-area high school and college students from low-income backgrounds
Next year’s Omaha Gives! will be May 20, 2020
