College Possible Philadelphia is excited to welcome College Possible alumna Tika Jones to our AmeriCorps team for 2015-2016!
Tika recently graduated from North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She will begin a new chapter this fall as a College Possible coach, with the opportunity to impact students’ lives in the same way her coaches impacted her life.
For Tika, a first-generation college student, the guidance that College Possible provided her was formative and valuable.
“We did not know anything about the college process because it was foreign to us. I am thankful for my high school coach and college coaches who aided me along the journey,” Tika said.
Influenced by her own experience with the program, Tika decided during college that she wanted to serve with College Possible after graduation. She earned her undergraduate degree in Secondary Education to best prepare herself to coach students.
“Every job or extracurricular activity I did in college was in preparation for this service”, Tika added.
“I believe strongly that it takes a village to raise a child. College Possible was part of that ‘village’ for me; therefore, I would like to be part of that ‘village’ for high school students in Philadelphia.”
College Possible Philadelphia is grateful that Tika has chosen to spend a year of service sharing her unique perspective, teaching our students valuable lessons, and inspiring them, with her own story, to believe that college is possible.
